We're on a mission to demystify the world of buying and selling property! Whether you're a first-time buyer or a serial home-mover, our A-Z glossary of property-related terms has been designed to make it all, well, more accessible and less confusing!

The NHBC or National House Building Council exists to raise the construction standards of new and converted homes in the UK and provides consumer protection for homebuyers with their 10-year new home warranty and insurance, known as 'Buildmark'.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So if you're buying a new or converted home with Buildmark, what does it cover?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏠 Pre-completion insurance protection for a lost deposit should your builder become insolvent
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏠 For the initial 2 year period following completion of your new home purchase, Buildmark offers an independent resolution service should your builder fail to fulfil their own warranty, for example, if they fail to repair defects that are not general wear and tear or maintenance issues.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏠 For years 3-10 (after the builder warranty period ends), Buildmark gives new home buyers a further 8 years of insurance - up to a maximum period of 10 years from the completion date - against:
- builder warranty
- contaminated land cover
- building regulations cover
